Under BasicMed, a pilot can fly an aircraft with a maximum certificated takeoff weight of no more than 6,000 pounds, and with no more than six occupants (including the pilot). While BasicMed does not allow for operations above 18,000 feet or carrying more than six occupants, it does permit flying an aircraft capable of speeds greater than 250 knots indicated airspeed (IAS), as long as the other limitations are adhered to.
