The recommended procedure to ensure that the emergency locator transmitter (ELT) has not been inadvertently activated is to monitor the emergency frequency 121.5 MHz before engine shutdown. By doing this, pilots can check for any unintended ELT signals, which would indicate that the ELT has been activated. This is a standard practice to ensure the ELT is only activated in an actual emergency.
